Jadon’s first word was “ball.” Virtually as soon as he learned how to walk he began kicking balls. He will walk and run around the room for quite awhile either throwing or kicking soccer balls, footballs, tennis balls (well you get the idea) and it is amazing to see his coordination. Jadon’s first phrase was “I love you” which he learned from Mark and Sarah. But his first connection of two different words was “more food.” Mentally he figured it out that more combined with food communicated that he was still hungry. Meditation
Proverbs 30:5—Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Sometimes life needs to be broken down to the simplest of concepts. In Proverbs 30, Agur son of Jakeh distills fantastic wisdom for us in his oracle. “Every word of God is pure.” What a powerful and life-transforming phrase. Are you spiritually hungry? More food! Feed on God’s Word and receive eternal nourishment. Are you discouraged? More food! Divine Word brings encouragement, inspiration, and hope. Are you confused? More food! The Bible gives clarity, direction and purpose as you meditate on it and ask the Holy Spirit for insight. Are you sick? More food! The pure nutrients of God’s Word bring healing to the soul and victory to endure what ails you. Are you mentally tired? More food! Reading Scripture thoughtfully will renew your perspective, give you energy and resolve to press on. Are you out of balance? More food! The Lord disciplines, adjusts your course and brings needed correction as you listen to His Word and respond to His promptings. Are you angry, bitter, impatient, or impaired in your attitude? More food! Nothing brings peace and clarity like the Word of God and the gentle prodding of His Spirit. Are you joyful, excited, full of hope? More food. Singing Psalms, reciting Scripture as praise and worship to God is incredibly honoring and edifying. The Hebrew word for pure literally means refined. There is extra dimension of power and refuge for those who apply what God says. For this reason Agur says, “Don’t add to His words, or He will rebuke you, and you will be proved a liar” (vs. 6). There is no reason to be spiritually anemic. God gives us all we need if we will just remember we need more food! Inspiration We want people to chew on chunks of Scripture, not just casually lick small pieces of it.—Don Everts and Doug Schaupp in I Once Was Lost ©2014 Daniel York ARR.
