Rwanda Trip 1
July 17, 27-31, 2018
Day 1: Dan York arrived in Kigali, Rwanda
Day 2: Dan said goodbye to Pastor Justin and welcomed Pastor David Joel from Jos, Nigeria and Rob Mahan from San Diego, California.. David is our First Cause Prayer Walk and Worship Leader. Rob is on our First Cause Advisory Board. We met up with Esperance Mukarusagara who is the mother-in-law of our FC Africa Director Jerry Anze. We stayed at the Scripture Union Guest House in Kigali.
Day 3: Today David Joel and I were invited to preach at Pastor Joseph and Agnus Gatema's church Light of the World. It is a newer church plant in a growing town on the fringe of Kigali. Feel and enjoy the energy of their worship team. They put the meaning in "jumping for joy!" Rob Mahan spoke at a home church led by Pastor Augustine Mazimpaka. I must confess that after eleven days of good African food I had a pizza craving so four of us found Kabana Club and ate Rwandan pizza which was delicious. In the evening Dan was interviewed by GoodRich television station that posts YouTube videos for Christians on various hot topics.
Day 4: Today was a very sobering visit to the Rwandan Genocide Museum and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum. Sometimes the depravity of man is simply unthinkable, inconceivable and terrifying. I've posted pictures of Kigali, the museum and our guides that led us on the museum tours. Teta, (pictured to my right in the photo with two women) who worked in the Genocide museum store was orphaned at the age of 6--her entire family (no relatives left) was wiped out. When Pastor David Joel asked her about forgiveness she said words that penetrated the very marrow of my bones. "Forgiveness is a big word." Meaning--there is a lot more to forgiveness then she could handle at this point 24 years later. How God's heart must break at the violence He sees every day on our planet. Violence brought the flood and someday it will bring the fire. Lord help us!
Day 5: Today was a training day. Covered the Strong Leader's Hand Workbook with David Joel and Rob Mahan. Our goal is to set up pilot training in Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Rwanda and Nigeria. In the evening we had a wonderful dinner at Laetitia Anze's mother's home. Her brother joined us. Wow did she cook us a feast!
