Mindlock

They were college roommates with a friendship that brought laughter and fun to almost everyone who entered their orbit. Now, 44 years later, on opposite sides of the political spectrum, they bash each other on social media with barely concealed contempt. Whoever said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” was internally dishonest. Negative words do more than upset, they create resentment, rifts, and land littered with destroyed relationships.

The First Commandment

Aseret haDevarim are the Hebrew words which mean the “ten words” or “ten matters” and describe what is worldwide known as The Ten Commandments.[1]
"In the early fifth century, the Christian theologian Augustine of Hippo combined the first two commandments into one commandment, and split the prohibition on coveting into two commandments . . . Augustine’s list became the standard enumeration for the Roman Church."[2]

The Eastern Orthodox churches used a variation of Jewish thinking by making the first commandment, “Do not have other gods besides Me,” and “Do not make an idol for yourself . . .” (20:3,4a). But in Judaism, the first commandment is God’s declaration, “I am the LORD your God.”

How Could I Hinder God?

There may come a time when God asks you to do something that takes you out of your comfort zone and violates your religious beliefs. For example, what if you are a pro-life conservative, and God calls you to minister to abortion advocates? Or, perhaps you are a pacifist and democrat, and God leads you to present the gospel to Marines, a group trained and willing to take lives. What will you do? How will you explain to all your friends or those like-minded believers you fellowship with about your actions?

Separated Ones

A group of people determined to separate themselves in the pursuit of holiness. They gave themselves a name—Perushim, which means separated ones. Over time as they concentrated on holy living, they became proud and self-righteous. On the outside they looked great but on the inside they rotted.[1]

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a 15th-century Inca citadel located in an isolated place of spectacular beauty in the Eastern Cordillera of southern Peru. It sits on a mountain ridge 2,430 meters above sea level (7,970 ft) and is located 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Cuzco. Below it the windy Urubamba River flows. It is estimated that about 750 people once lived there.
