Hamon didn’t know that King Ahasuerus that same night would have a sleepless night orchestrated by God so that the king would discover from his book of daily events that Mordecai had saved his life and received no reward for his action. That discovery completely reversed Haman’s plan. The night before Mordecai was to be hung turned into Haman’s day for a hanging.
Meditation Esther 7:9--Harbona, one of the royal eunuchs, said: “There is a gallows 75 feet tall at Haman’s house that he made for Mordecai, who gave the report that saved the king.” The king commanded, “Hang him on it.” How many nights have you gone to bed convinced that defeat, destruction, or failure was just a sunrise away? How many evenings have the fear of impending conflict soured your throat and left a bitter taste of doom? Well, fear not! Mordecai’s fate was determined long before his existence by His Creator. His countrymen’s survival was not contingent on their overcoming Hamon. God was adept at hanging a fiend on a gallows made for Mordecai. When life looks its bleakest, God’s power is not relinquished. Your good, success, and salvation are always in His hands. It is a matter of trusting Him and patiently waiting for what seems impossible to melt into possible. Can you think of a time when all seemed lost, and something inexplicable happened to bring unexpected victory? My dad did not know Jesus while in combat during the Korean war. But his father had placed his faith in Christ after a severe auto accident. Clyde and Barbara Jo, Ron’s sister, prayed for his safety and salvation. One day Ron, with a small fire team, embarked on a recon mission. The platoon leader, radio man, and sergeant went in one direction and left him positioned alone in another location. The LT was wounded (later died) and evacuated, but the team neglected to pick up Ron as they hastily exited the mountain when attacked by a Chinese unit. Ron came under heavy fire and a grenade attack that left him wounded and bleeding badly from his arm. He should have died. A civilian appeared behind him and told him to follow him because they needed to get out of there. He obeyed and was led safely back to his unit before being evacuated to a hospital ship. He had no idea how that man appeared on that mountain, only to disappear after getting him back to camp. God had a plan for Sgt. York. It was not his time to die. So He sent an angel to rescue him. Soon after, Ron placed his faith in Christ. Over a decade later, he would return with his small family, including myself, to serve as a missionary in Korea.
