Colossians 2:1,2--For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you, for those in Laodicea, and for all who have not seen me in person. I want their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery—Christ. Paul was greatly concerned about the spiritual development of the Colossians. He wanted to ensure they would not be deceived by false spiritual arguments (vs. 4) or lose sight of their position in Christ by the disqualifying judgments of legalistic heresy. So he struggled to ensure that in his absence, his letter contained the information these young believers needed to grow spiritually in their relationship with Jesus. Refrain from assuming that your communication is adequate. Ask challenging and empowering questions that enable you to know what others are truly going through and what they understand. Then, utilize that knowledge to communicate even more clearly. Communication is easy. Virtually anyone can send a text or email to pass information. Clear communication is complex. Making an effort to ensure others have what they need to succeed is a mark of sacrificial love, and it may save them from a mountain of unnecessary trouble.
