5/15/2016 Keeping a Closed MindLawrence Krauss in his lecture, “Teaching Creationism is Child Abuse,” makes the statement that “Saying we shouldn’t offend religious beliefs by requiring kids to understand reality is child abuse. . . Evolution is the basis of modern biology.” Larry considers the teaching of creationism to be nonsense. Consistent with the age we live in, the more someone detests an opposing message the louder and more inflammatory are their charges. To imply that evolution is backed by science and therefore the only view to be considered is simply wrong for several reasons. First, evolution is as much a faith-based belief as creationism or intelligent design. G.A. Kerkut, a well-known evolutionist lists the major assumptions of evolution. “All of the ‘molecules-to-man science’ is built upon these assumptions, but you rarely, if ever, see them listed in a high school or college textbook.”[1]
1. Non-living things gave rise to living material, i.e., spontaneous generation occurred. 2. Spontaneous generation occurred only once. 3. Viruses, bacteria, plants and animals are all related. 4. Protozoa (single-celled life forms) gave rise to metazoa (multiple-celled life forms. 5. Various invertebrate phyla are interrelated. 6. Invertebrates gave rise to the vertebrates. 7. Within the vertebrates the fish gave rise to amphibian, the amphibian to reptiles and the reptiles to birds and mammals.[2] The problem with these assumptions is that they do not hold up to scientific testing. For example, using phase-electron microscopes, scientists now know that consistent differences occur in cellular substance in various kinds of animals. “When studied microscopically, the living things of the evolutionary tree do not appear to be related to each other at all.”[3] This is consistent with what the Bible teaches in 1 Corinthians 15:39, “Not all flesh is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.” Teaching that non-living chemicals suddenly turned into a living cell and then mindlessly and randomly evolved into more complex forms of life is based completely on conjecture—there is no science to validate such thinking. Therefore to belittle those who believe in a Creator is not just disingenuous it is folly. Meditation Job 9:4—God is wise and all-powerful. Who has opposed Him and come out unharmed? Perhaps the greatest example of a creature on earth that could not possibly have evolved is the Bombardier Beetle. Time Magazine reported: . . . the bombardier (beetle) does appear to be unique in the animal kingdom. Its defense system is extraordinarily intricate, a cross between tear gas and a tommy gun. When the beetle senses danger, it internally mixes enzymes contained in one body chamber with concentrated solutions of some rather harmless compounds, hydrogen peroxide and hydroquinones, confined to a second chamber. This generates a noxious spray of caustic benzoquinones, which explodes from its body at a boiling 212 degrees F. What is more, the fluid is pumped through twin rear nozzles which can be rotated, like a B-17’s gun turret, to hit a hungry ant or frog with bull’s eye accuracy.[4] Randomness is an essential part of neo-Darwinian theory (NDT), but there is nothing random about this beetle. It is designed and irreducibly complex. It could not evolve because any misfiring or failure to operate would have eliminated it from existence! For those who need more evidence of design, study the incubator bird, the black and yellow garden spider, the giraffe, the angler fish, the beaver, the chicken egg, the chuckwalla lizard and the woodpecker. None of these could have evolved—they each possess a design that specifically allow for their survival. Missing links remain missing. Keeping a closed mind for evolution is not based on science. “The most well proven law of the biological sciences is called the Law of Biogenesis. This law states that life comes from life.”[5] Despite the best efforts of evolutionists, random chemical reactions have never produced life. Dr. Werner von Braun, a gifted scientist, noted: One cannot be exposed to the law and order of the universe without concluding that there must be design and purpose behind it all . . . To be forced to believe only one conclusion –that everything in the universe happened by chance—would violate the very objectivity of science itself.[6] And those who declare that teachers who propose a Creator are guilty of child abuse might want to read Job’s words above and carefully ponder them. To teach that there is no Creator is to oppose the Creator. To assume He does not exist then begs the question, where did the thought of Him evolve from?
