7/5/2013 God's FaithfulnessMeditation Deuteronomy 7:9—Know that Yahweh your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commands. Do you realize what an incredible message is contained in the verse above? The adjective faithfulthat describes God is profound in meaning. God is faithful in His work. “He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will bless your descendants, and the produce of your land. . . (7:13). Have you ever hired workers who were lazy, sloppy, or who failed to deliver on what they promised you? God is not like that—everything He accomplishes is perfect! God is faithful to His word. Have you ever been cheated or hurt by people who broke their commitments to you? In over 50 years of knowing the Lord He has always kept His word to me—what He says He does. His promises are powerful and when applied—life changing.
God is faithful in His loyalty. If I calculated an average lifespan to be just 50 years, “a thousand generations”would be 50,000 years. In essence, the writer is telling us that God’s faithfulness never runs out! Most people define loyalty by whatever delivers immediate satisfaction. God is not like that—He is not fickle or finite. Nor is it accurate to say His love is unconditional. Joshua told his countrymen that ifthey obeyed God’s word they would prosper and succeed in every undertaking (Jos. 1:8). He said, “So be very diligent to love the LORD your God for your own well-being” (23:11). He would not be God if He was casually loyal. He remains true to those who love and obey Him. Know that God is faithful and live accordingly! D. Tryon encourages us with this thought: “When circumstances seem impossible, when all signs of grace in you seem at their lowest ebb, when temptation is fiercest, when love and joy and hope seem well-nigh extinguished in your heart, then rest, without feeling and without emotion, in the Father’s faithfulness.” Inspiration From the tiny birds of the air and from the fragile lilies of the field, we learn the same truth...God takes care of His own.... At just the right moment, He steps in and proves Himself as our faithful heavenly Father.—Charles Swindoll ©2013 Daniel York ARR. Reveration is the weekly devotional ministry of First Cause.
