7/27/1999 CreationMeditation Romans 8:19-21—All creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal who His children are. Creation was subjected to frustration but not by its own choice. The One who subjected it to frustration did so in the hope that it would also be set free from slavery to decay in order to share the glorious freedom that the children of God will have. (GWT) On a grassy plain thousands of hungry elk dine
Massive bear fill their bellies with berries while squirrels leap overhead A red-tailed hawk swoops to snare a careless hare Trees play tag with a clever breeze; the child of wind carries the seeds of cedar. Schools of fish swim through plant condominiums Both unmatched for their brilliant color and stunning patterns Who painted these graceful forms that live below, That decorate murky waters and hidden reefs? Or did they just evolve? Slabs of stone and mounds of dirt beneath the sheets of snow What magnets do mountains hold that pull admiring souls? Who can tame an earthquake? Lava beds, ocean waves, forests of triple canopy, desert grandeur Cranberry sunsets, puffed thunderclouds, arched rainbows, symphonic water falls . . . The bumblebee gets off the ground to the amazement of every ant. Rains fill streams that carve rock as prized sculptures while forming pools for thirsty creatures. Lightning awakens gnarled pine in a signature of terror Brush that choked its competition is burned away ‘til new green emerges. What therapy provides the honest unconditional love a dog shares? Its tail and tongue and paw and eyes resound as faithful! A purring cat brings calm. The sun rises to gorgeous songs little birds create Dawn is the daily breath of newness to inhale. Is life a sentence or a gift? Pride will not admit a Maker for that would mean submission. Yet unbelief cannot erase His handiwork and power to commission. What man can control the weather, overcome decay or count all the stars? Futility is defined by rejecting what is obvious to affirm what is hopeless! A pagan man drowning yells, “Save me Lord!” because he knows! Is it cosmic conspiracy that twists his mind or a sudden flash of truth? If God is not alive then we are truly dead for nothing comes from nothing. We carry inside the hope that our value is much more than dust in the wind. Creation is the visible expression of an invisible Maker The pathway to His lordship is built by the reality of life and suspense of death. He gave us senses to lead us to know Him: the huckleberry and honey suckle . . . the scent of rose . . . a warming fire . . . A bubbling brook . . . the aurora borealis If an amazing creation groans now with the agony of sin, imagine what its liberation will bring for those who believe in God’s Son! “For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16). Inspiration God’s creation satisfies Him, and when we come to know God by His Spirit, we are as delighted with His creation as He is Himself.—Oswald Chambers in Not Knowing When ©1999 Daniel York ARR.
