I have doubted Your goodness, likening You to a broken man who is quick to anger or to forget, believing instead that You are not who You say you are. I have taken the quick and easy, fleshly path of disbelief, rather than adhering to the truth of who You, my Friend, are. I have made an idol of my pain and disappointment rather than worshiping my Faithful God. I have eaten the fruit of the deceiver, rather than clinging to Your true Self. I have betrayed You in believing untruths about You, instead believing that You have forgotten me. But God, even as Your gaze is fixed upon me, with kindness and abounding love, forgive me. Forgive me for forgetting You, for forgetting what you are like. Root and ground me in Your truth and love, as I return to You. For You have promised that my name is engraved on the palms of Your hands. You have promised that though even a mother may forget her child, You will never forget me. You will see me and remember me and extend Your goodness towards me. Let Your kindness and compassion remove my disbelief, that I may declare the truth of who You are. Let Your grace remind me of who You are and Your character towards me. Father of compassion, my kind and near Friend, thank You for seeing me, for not turning away Your gaze from me even in my unbelief of who You are. Thank You for remembering who I really am, and the good that You have for me, even as I'd forgotten the truth of who You are. Thank You for forgiving me and making a way to restore me to Yourself, by the blood of Jesus. Thank you that Your words are steadfast and Your heart for me is always good. Thank You for remaining a faithful Friend even when I have betrayed You with my unbelief. Thank You that You are making me faithful, making me into a friend who is steadfast, like You. ©2019 Sarah Tegtmeier ARR. Reveration is the weekly devotional ministry of First Cause.
