Build Me a Grandson

​My mother wrote a prayer for me called “Build Me a Son.”  It is a prayer that still inspires me and one that God honors.  On July 12,2013, our grandson Jadon celebrated his first birthday.  Kathleen and I are grateful that our children love God and that our daughter Sarah and son-in-law Mark will share His love with their son.  While the family gathered in Bend to celebrate this milestone, I missed Jadon’s birthday because of Army duty.   Ironically, I am in the place where I was born, Colorado Springs.  So by the Rocky Mountains I reach to heaven with this new prayer of blessing.  

​Heavenly Father build me a grandson who loves You with all his heart, mind, soul and strength.
Build me a grandson who lives for Your glory and shares Your story.
Build me a grandson who puts You before relationships, ministry, work, prestige, possessions or power.  
Build me a grandson who treasures Your Word, seeks Your wisdom and is discerning.
Build me a grandson who measures life by the thrill of Your presence.
Build me a grandson grateful for Your faithfulness and aware of Your grace.
Build me a grandson in whom You have forged the attributes of:

• Faith that trusts Your perfect will and dares to walk on water
• Reverence that honors Your Name at all costs
• Love as strong for his neighbor as for himself; cross-carrying love
• Obedience to Your will and the will to follow Your Spirit
• Joy that radiates from his heart and warms the coldest room
• Integrity that he may be known as a man of truth and strong character
• Humility that recognizes he is Your meek servant 
• Purity that his heart may be right towards women and men;
• Gentleness that draws people into his presence
• Kindness that touches even the unseen
• Generosity, that all he has is Yours to administer
• Compassion that knows how to weep with the sorrowful
• Courage forged by testing and found genuine
• Rest that knows Your pace and boundaries
• Perseverance that is untiring and unbowed by stress
• Peace that knows how to forgive, forget and give You his every burden. 

Build me a grandson who at the right age will let You select a Proverbs 31:10-31 wife, a godly woman who is passionate for You, Heavenly Father.
