Reveration Blog
6/21/1999 0 Comments ReverenceReveration means reverent-adoration. It is a word I created after studying one of the most overlooked major themes of Scripture—the fear of God. If love for God is food than reverence for Him is water. We need both to nourish our relationship. Love devoid of respect is emotionally unstable causing people to perceive God as some sort of cosmic Genie. Respect without love is mechanically rigid such that people approach God from a sense of duty, concerned with failing, convinced that He is a harsh Judge.

Psalm 57:4--I am surrounded by lions; I lie down with those who devour men. Their teeth are spears and arrows; their tongues are sharp swords. He was treated like an outlaw, a condemned man with an entire army pursuing him. Despite the fact that he had committed no crime, the ruler of the land was determined to kill him. With a band of ragtag followers, he skillfully ran and hid always remaining one step ahead of his countrymen tracking his every move. 8/8/1998 0 Comments OrdinaryActs 4:13--When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus
5/15/1998 0 Comments SincerityNo one likes to be manipulated. An individual may express an outward message that is incongruent with an inner motive. Once I placed a large order of cassettes for a music project I was working on. The sales person assured me of the solid reputation of this “Christian” company. He did not tell me the company was deeply in debt and about to declare bankruptcy. His motive might have been to help the company pull in more business. Because he withheld information, I made a purchase decision which resulted in losing my money and not receiving the products I’d paid for.

Colossians 4:2--Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. I have neverencountered a mature Christian who is not strongly devoted to prayer. Certainly I know talented believers. There is a great abundance of disciples who are full of knowledge of the Bible and equipped with great people skills. I know many Christians who possess a solid business savvy and a knack for administrating. There is no shortage of believers who were raised in Christian homes and have faithfully attended church all their lives. But I have never encountered a mature Christian who is not devoted to prayer. 11/4/1997 0 Comments ProblemsMeditation

Unfulfilled verbiage is hype—a first cousin to hypocrite. We become unreal when we have all the right answers but neglect application. Most people quickly learn to spot smoke devoid of fire.

Genesis 2:16,17--And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die. 6/10/1997 0 Comments Useful6/4/1997 0 Comments WorkIs there anything mankind cannot accomplish? Pick up a newspaper and you are likely to find an advertisement for a seminar hosted by a professional motivator who will take your life to new dimensions with his or her “can’t lose” methods. Christianity is not immune from this phenomenon. The hot message today revolves around “You can do it—and we’ll show you how!” There is a subtle danger to this approach . . . The how or what takes priority over the who!

Ezekiel 4:9--Also take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt. Put them in a single container and make them into bread for yourself. You are to eat it during the number of days you lie on your side, 390 days. 2/15/1997 0 Comments ContentmentI wonder if the “desert” experiences so many Christians endure is not hastened by an unbalanced perspective of the Christian life. If we always go to church expecting to be challenged, read our Bibles anticipating profound inspiration, enter prayer insisting God meet our conditions or look for some new battle to win, are we not in danger of trying to create the “mountain-top” euphoria that is not the stuff of daily living. This is not to say we cannot experience daily joy—we should. The test of our commitment to Christ and our ability to be useful to the Master is measured by our willingness to serve in the ordinary not the extraordinary. If we will be content to serve when life is devoid of fireworks we will model the essence of what it means to live a Spirit-filled life. God is not looking for His children to exalt the ecstatic He is looking for faithfulness. Perhaps the key to being faithful begins with being content.
