Inspirational Quotations  A-C
Dear Reader,

For over two decades I have collected quotes from books and magazines I’ve read as well as from internet searches when researching certain topics or themes.  This collection is made to be added to as I continue to collect and by you also if you have quotes you would like us to add to this working compilation.  Simply add them as a comment and once approved we will join them to the collection.
Three disclaimers:  1.  Oswald Chambers is my all-time hero as a writer-speaker and therefore you will find that by far he is the most quoted author/speaker.  If you have never heard of him, I highly recommend My Utmost For His Highest.   2.  This collection is heavily tilted towards ministry—if you are in ministry and love speaking and writing you will get the most out of this.  Regardless, there is much for anyone.  3.  Do not assume quotations reflect my viewpoint. I’ve included a vast array of thoughts and opinions not because I agree with them but because they are thought-provoking.  The beauty of language is often found in the formatting and word selection!
Finally, this collection is offered free.  If you find it to be useful and you frequently hunt for quotes for speaking or writing here, please consider donating to First Cause which you can do right on this website.  Your gift helps us build better speakers and writers globally!    Enjoy!

Advice

“Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t.”—Erica Jong, author and educator
“We can never learn too much of His will towards us, too much of His messages and His advice. The Bible is His word and its study gives at once the foundation for our faith and an inspiration to battle onward in the fight against the tempter.”--John D. Rockefeller

“We may give advice, but we cannot give conduct.”—Benjamin Franklin

“Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it.”—Benjamin Franklin

“When you do have to give advice to another, God will advise through you with the direct understanding of His Spirit; your part is to be so rightly related to God that His discernment comes through you all the time for the blessing of another soul.”—Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest

“Good advice is always certain to be ignored, but that's no reason not to give it.”—Agatha Christie

“To profit from good advice requires more wisdom than to give it.—Wilson Mizner

No enemy is worse than bad advice.—Sophocles

No one wants advice - only corroboration.”—John Steinbeck

“Don't give your advice before you are called upon.—Desiderius Erasmus

Ask a woman's advice, and whatever she advises, Do the very reverse and you're sure to be wise.”—Thomas Moore

“It is easy when we are in prosperity to give advice to the afflicted.”—Aeschylus

“When you seek advice, do not withhold any facts from the person whose advice you seek.”—Abu Bakr

“Whatever advice you give, be short.”—Horace

“To offer a man unsolicited advice is to presume that he doesn't know what to do or that he can't do it on his own.”—John Gray

“Women don't like advice. They don't want you to fix their problems, they just want you to listen.”—Shawn Wayans

“To think well and to consent to obey someone giving good advice are the same thing.”—Herodotus

“When we ask for advice, we are usually looking for an accomplice.”—Saul Bellow

“Advice is like snow - the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind.”—Samuel Taylor Coleridge

“
The best advice comes from people who don't give advice.”—Matthew McConaughey

“
I have found the best way to give advice to your children is to find out what they want and then advise them to do it.”—Harry S Truman

“
An expert is somebody who is more than 50 miles from home, has no responsibility for implementing the advice he gives, and shows slides.”—Edwin Meese

“Advice is seldom welcome; and those who want it the most always like it the least.”—George Chapman

I think it's very important to have a feedback loop, where you're constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. I think that's the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself.—Elon Musk

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a horse master. He told me to go slow to go fast. I think that applies to everything in life. We live as though there aren't enough hours in the day but if we do each thing calmly and carefully we will get it done quicker and with much less stress.—Viggo Mortensen

“
Many receive advice, only the wise profit from it.”—Harper Lee

Be yourself is about the worst advice you can give to some people.”—J. B. Priestley

“
When your mother asks, 'Do you want a piece of advice?' it is a mere formality. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no. You're going to get it anyway.”—Erma Bombeck

“It takes a great man to give sound advice tactfully, but a greater to accept it graciously.”—Logan Pearsall Smith

“He that gives good advice, builds with one hand; he that gives good counsel and example, builds with both; but he that gives good admonition and bad example, builds with one hand and pulls down with the other.”—Francis Bacon

“
There is nothing which we receive with so much reluctance as advice.”—Joseph Addison
