Nate thought about calling me to check if I had any suggestions on where they, along with their two dogs and six cats, could temporarily live. Instead, he called a relative, Jim Moline. Jim told him about a house in Rolette, North Dakota, built in 1880 and purchased by Nate’s great-grandparents, Kittil and Torbjor Strand, in 1929. Kittil was a Lutheran pastor, and it took him two days to travel by horse-drawn vehicle to reach Hillsdale Lutheran Church in the Turtle Mountains, one of the two churches he pastored.
The Rolette home has sat vacant, but Nate’s great-uncle Harold, who lives nearby, has paid the utilities and watched over it. Jim gave Nate Harold’s number, and this 93-year-old relative who lives alone was so excited after talking to Nate that he said over the phone, “When you get here, I will sign the deed over in your name, and the house is yours.” Nate, Missy, and Roger have a place to live, and Harold has family to take care of him in his final years! Meditation Galatians 3:5--So then, does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law or by hearing with faith? I love watching my brother’s faith and prayer life grow. He is not one to make miracle pronouncements, and it was highly uncharacteristic of him to make such a claim. But the Holy Spirit is not shy about working miracles in the lives of His people when they walk by faith. The Apostle Paul wrote the Galatians, “So those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith” (3:9). Jesus told us not to worry about our lives and what we will eat, drink, or wear (Matthew 6:25). We can get pretty spun up over life challenges when what we should be doing is getting prayed up. The joy of faith journeys is experiencing God’s creative love at work. The Bible is full of amazing stories of people’s faith rewarded. Those miracle stories did not stop when the last book was written. Every day around the world, God is at work transforming the lives of His children who walk not by sight, but by faith. Something to think about . . . in reveration! Rolette, North Dakota...it could very easily have been called Rolette, Manitoba if the international boundary had deviated slightly south.
