Meditation
Psalm 146:8,9--The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord raises up those who are oppressed. The Lord loves the righteous. The Lord protects foreigners and helps the fatherless and the widow, but He frustrates the ways of the wicked. Jeremiah 22:3--This is what the Lord says: Administer justice and righteousness. Rescue the victim of robbery from the hand of his oppressor. Don’t exploit or brutalize the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place. As followers of Jesus, we were never called to be spectators. Nowhere in the New Testament are believers told to expect pastors, priests, evangelists, or teachers to teach God’s Word and share the gospel message while we merely watch. God works through us. We are encouraged to study the Word, to share our faith, and to live out the gospel. The beauty of the body of Christ is the reality that we each have a mission and a calling. It is shabby, shallow, fallow, and feeble reasoning that substitutes constant observing for doing. Do you remember the phrase "we are his hands and feet?" It is a Christian idiom that refers to us acting as the physical representatives of Jesus Christ on Earth. It emphasizes the idea that we are called to extend the Messiah’s love, compassion, message, teaching, and service to the world. We are rescuers! We have the privilege and honor of representing God’s love by helping the foreigner, victims, the fatherless, and widows. It is a glorious thing to be a rescuer. Imagine the stories we will hear in heaven of how God used His people to save those in need. Let’s be those people—the stuff of stories, the content of accounts, the glue in the glory that sealed solutions.
