Isaiah 45:6—I do this so people will recognize from east to west that there is no God but me; I am the LORD, I have no peer. (NET) Why does God go to such lengths to emphasize that He is peerless? First, so that we will recognize that He is Lord (vss. 3,6). Second, so that we will know He is the One who arms us for battle (vs. 5). Third, to ensure that we know He is our Creator (vss. 7,8,9,12,18) and we should not argue with Him or question His work (vss. 9,11). Fourth, to remind us that He is with us (vs. 14). Fifth, so we should understand that only He can announce beforehand what will happen in the future and not worthless idols (vs. 21). Finally, to recognize that He is our Deliverer (vss. 21,22,24). When hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding cause astounding devastation, there are no gods, governments, or human-constructed solutions that can bring healing or heart-sought answers to those stricken with loss. Those in power can pass laws and regulations to address climate change, but their efforts to restrict storms and calm a restless planet are as effective as building houses with sand. The One who sees the future has already told us, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” (Luke 21:33). When hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding cause astounding devastation, it is the Peerless One who says: Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves (Matthew 11:28,29). The Apostle Paul proclaimed in 2 Corinthians 1:10, “He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and He will deliver us. We have put our hope in Him that He will deliver us again.” He is Lord over every trial and time of testing. He is with us and will carry us through loss. His deliverance is beyond this perishing world. Only the Peerless One can calm our storms. That is why Jesus’ disciples, after twice watching Him rebuke the wind and the sea, in their boat proclaimed, “Truly, You are the Son of God!” (Mat. 9:26, 14:33). Now is the time to get in His boat . . . something to think about . . . in revelation. Inspiration When we speak of the transcendence of God we are talking about that sense in which God is above and beyond us. It tries to get at His supreme and absolute greatness. The word is used to describe God’s relationship to the world. He is higher than the world. He has absolute power over the world . . . Transcendence describes God in His consuming majesty, His exalted loftiness.—RC Sproul in The Holiness of God ©2024 Daniel York ARR. Reveration is the weekly devotional ministry of First Cause.
