Kayanja bravely leaped out of the fast-moving truck but was badly injured. He crawled into the bush beside the road to hide and watched as the truck stopped and the men jumped out, beginning to search for him. Fortunately, they did not find him. Later, when he crawled back to the road, people who knew his father recognized him, and he was taken to the hospital with a badly broken back. The doctor told him he would probably never walk again, and for weeks, he was in horrible pain while in the intensive care unit (ICU).
But God had grand plans for the young boy. A godly man and family friend came to the hospital, prayed for Robert, and he was completely healed. Today, Kayanja is the pastor of The Miracle Centre in Kampala, Uganda, a church of over 10,000 attendees and a respected spiritual leader on the African continent, advising three nations’ presidents and leading crusades around the world. Meditation 2 Timothy 1:14--By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you. (ESV) Robert grew up in a family that loved Jesus. After he was healed, he profoundly realized that God’s hand was upon his life. With zeal, he guards the good deposit, the truth of the gospel that was planted in his heart. That truth continues to impact the hundreds of thousands of people to whom he ministers. His passion to finish well is inspiring. Charlie Kirk noted that “God does not measure you for what you can no longer do but rather by what you do with what you have.”[1] For Christians over 60, the goal should not be to rest on our laurels or coast to the finish line. We don’t become spectators while we wait for Jesus to return. Satan would love for us to do that because it means fewer threats to his kingdom. God calls us to persevere and run the race to the finish. Whether young or old, what distinguishes those who follow Jesus is the precious infilling of the Holy Spirit and the truth of the gospel that acts as salt and light (Matthew 5:13,14). We protect our deposit by actively living out the hope we have and rejecting the notion that our best days are behind us or that we no longer need to give our best to Jesus. That’s not guarding, that’s compromising—something to think about . . . in reveration. Inspiration “Great beginnings are not as important as the way one finishes.”—Dr. James C. As today is Christ the King Sunday, we celebrate the coronation of the One who began his carnal experience in Bethlehem's manger. Talk about finishing well!
