Revelation 21:19,20--The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. Would you be surprised to learn that all twelve precious stones mentioned in Revelation 21 are anisotropic? Of the 28 earthly stones considered to be gemstones, 16 are anisotropic. John would not have known this when he penned the letter of Revelation under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. But God did! The probability of randomly selecting 12 out of 28 stones that would all be anisotropic is approximately 1 in 16,715.[3] There is nothing random about God’s heavenly wall foundation design. He will be the source of light in heaven. “The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb” (vs 23). I suspect God’s pure light will be stunningly magnified with rainbow effects as it intersects those anisotropic gems. I used to sing a song as a child written by O.A. Lambert. Heaven is a wonderful place, Filled with glory and grace. I wanna see my Savior’s face, ‘Cause Heaven is a wonderful place. I wanna go there![4] The closer we study Scripture with the latest scientific discoveries, the more incredible God’s design unfolds. And what we enjoy on earth will pale compared to what we see in heaven. Heaven is a wonderful place. Imagine how incredible it will be to see God’s eternal handiwork for the first time in our redeemed bodies. Something to think about . . . in reveration! I learned something, smarty-pants. I had to look up "anisotropic." Thanks for writing about New Jerusalem.
